Dropshipping in Karachi: COD & How to Start

Dropshipping in Karachi works the same way it does anywhere in Pakistan, with one advantage: you are sitting inside the country's biggest supply base and its biggest customer base at once. You pick products from a supplier's catalogue, share them with buyers, and place the order only after someone confirms. The supplier ships, the courier collects the cash at the door, and you keep the difference between the listed price and the price you quoted.

You do not need a shop, stock, or a company registration to begin. You need a phone, a number people can WhatsApp, and the patience to answer questions the same day they are asked.

Below: how cash on delivery actually behaves in this city, what to sell, where the stock comes from, how to price so returns don't eat the month, and the exact steps to a first order.

Why Karachi is an easy city to start in

Most guides treat Pakistan as one market. Selling in Karachi is not the same job as selling in a small town, and the differences are worth knowing before you pick a product.

  • The buyers are already online. Karachi has the deepest pool of people who have ordered something to their door before. You spend less time convincing someone that online shopping is safe and more time answering questions about the product.
  • Courier coverage is dense. Every major courier runs multiple hubs across the city. Deliveries inside Karachi are usually the fastest legs a parcel takes anywhere in the country.
  • The wholesale is on your doorstep. Jodia Bazar, Bolton Market, Saddar, Empress Market and Tariq Road are within a bus ride. Even if you never buy stock, being able to physically see what a category looks like is an advantage a reseller in another city doesn't have.
  • Neighbourhood groups are strong. Gulshan, North Nazimabad, DHA, Malir, Korangi and Nazimabad all have active buy-and-sell Facebook groups and WhatsApp circles. Those are your first hundred customers.

The flip side: Karachi buyers have options. Someone in DHA can drive to a mall; someone in Saddar can walk to a market. Your price and your response speed have to be better than the effort of going out. If you're working the other end of the country, the same playbook adjusted for the twin cities is in our guide to dropshipping in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.

How cash on delivery works — and what it costs you

Almost every order you take in Karachi will be cash on delivery. The buyer pays the rider, the courier remits the money to the supplier, and your margin comes back to you after that. Nothing leaves your pocket before the sale exists.

That is the good news. The part beginners miss is that COD moves the risk from the buyer to you. A refused parcel is not a neutral event — the item travelled out and it has to travel back, and the return leg is paid for out of the same money you were hoping to earn. Three refusals on a thin margin can erase the profit on ten delivered orders.

So the whole job in Karachi is reducing refusals. What actually works:

  • Confirm on a call, not on a message. A voice call before dispatch — "your order is going out today, the amount is X, will you be home?" — kills most of the fake and impulse orders.
  • Write the full amount everywhere. The number the rider asks for must be the number the buyer already saw. Any surprise at the door is a refusal.
  • Get the address right. Block, street, nearest landmark. Karachi addresses fail on missing block numbers more than on anything else.
  • Set the expectation. Tell the buyer roughly when it arrives. Silence for four days makes people cancel out of doubt, not out of dislike.
  • Never oversell. If the fabric is thin, say the fabric is thin. A buyer who feels tricked at the door refuses on the spot.

If cash on delivery is new to you, our complete guide to COD dropshipping in Pakistan covers the mechanics end to end; this page stays on what changes when the city is Karachi.

What you need before your first order

Short list, and none of it is expensive:

  1. A phone with a working WhatsApp number. This is your storefront for the first few months.
  2. A CNIC and a bank or mobile wallet account in your own name, so your earnings can be paid out.
  3. A supplier catalogue you can order from one unit at a time. This is the whole model — see the next section.
  4. Somewhere to post. WhatsApp status, one Facebook page, and area buy-and-sell groups are enough to start.
  5. Two hours a day you can actually give it. Most people who quit in month one quit because they replied to buyers a day late.

What you do not need: a shop, a warehouse, a registered company, a website, or capital to buy stock. If someone tells you that you must pay a joining fee to start reselling, walk away. The no-investment start guide goes through the zero-cost route in detail.

Where Karachi resellers get products

Three realistic routes, and they suit different stages.

1. Karachi's wholesale markets

Jodia Bazar for general goods and household items, Bolton Market for imported and general merchandise, Saddar for electronics and accessories, Tariq Road for clothing and shoes, and Sher Shah for tools and hardware. Buying here means buying stock: you pay upfront, you carry it, and you're stuck with whatever doesn't sell. It works once you already know what moves, and it is the wrong way to start.

Where the markets are genuinely useful before you have money at stake is research. Walk Jodia Bazar on a weekday and you'll see what shopkeepers are stacking at the front — that's a live demand signal you can't get from a screen.

2. A dropshipping catalogue

The version with no capital at risk. You browse a supplier catalogue, share products, and order only after the customer confirms. There is no minimum order on Markaz, so a single unit is a valid order, and local stock reaches a Karachi address in roughly 3 to 5 days. You can see the whole shelf in the Markaz shop, or narrow it down through the product categories when you already know which shelf you want to work. If you'd rather judge by who's behind the product, the supplier list shows which suppliers stock what.

3. Sourcing from China

This is where the products nobody else in your area is posting come from — the gadget that hasn't reached local wholesale yet. Through Markaz China the freight and customs side is handled and orders arrive door to door in about 10 to 17 days, with no minimum order, so you can test one unit before committing to a product. The China deals page is the fastest way to see what's worth testing this week.

The trade-off is speed against novelty. Use local stock for the everyday sellers where the buyer expects the parcel this week; use China for the item that gives you something to say that nobody else is saying.

Products that suit Karachi buyers

A product that works here usually passes four tests: it's an impulse price, it demos in a short video, it survives a courier, and it isn't something the buyer can grab at a market on the way home.

  • Kitchen tools and small appliances. Choppers, hand blenders, portable juicers, storage jars. Obvious before-and-after, which is the entire ad. Our list of the best home and kitchen products to resell in Pakistan goes shelf by shelf.
  • Phone and computer accessories. Chargers, cables, power banks, earbuds, holders. High repeat, low breakage, and Karachi buyers know exactly what they want — the best gadgets and accessories to dropship guide covers which ones hold up.
  • Unstitched fabric and ready-to-wear. The biggest category in the country. Heavy competition, so win on photography and on answering questions fast, not on being cheapest.
  • Home and storage items. Racks, organisers, bedsheets, cushion covers. They ship well and customers buy in sets.
  • Beauty and personal care. Strong repeat purchase. Be honest about what a product does; overclaiming here brings returns and bad reviews.
  • Seasonal. Karachi's summer runs long — fans, coolers, water bottles and sun protection sell for more months here than in the north. Winter is short, so don't overcommit to heavy items.

What to avoid at the start: fragile glassware, anything bulky enough to make the return leg painful, and any product where the buyer really wants to try it on or hold it first. Start where the parcel arrives intact and the description can't disappoint.

How to price so returns don't eat the month

Your selling price is your decision, not the supplier's. Build it in this order:

  1. Start from the listed product price. That's your cost.
  2. Add your margin. Enough that the order is worth the hour you'll spend on it, not so much that the buyer finds it cheaper at Tariq Road.
  3. Add a return buffer. Some percentage of COD orders come back. Price so that a delivered order still pays for itself once you spread the occasional refusal across the rest.
  4. Check it against the market. Karachi buyers cross-check. If your price is far above what the same item goes for locally, they'll say so in the comments.
  5. Round it to a clean number. Prices ending in awkward figures make people ask "why".

Two habits that protect the margin more than any pricing trick: bundle where it's natural (two jars, a cable plus an adapter) so the delivery cost is spread over a bigger order, and never discount to win a buyer who's already hesitating on trust — fix the trust instead. If you want the numbers side laid out properly, the startup-cost breakdown for dropshipping in Pakistan is the right next read.

Where to actually sell in Karachi

You do not need ad spend on day one. You need to be visible where people already are.

  • WhatsApp status. The single highest-converting channel for new resellers. Post two or three products a day, not twenty. People mute a status that spams.
  • Area Facebook groups. Gulshan, North Nazimabad, Malir, Korangi, DHA and Nazimabad groups all move products. Read the group rules first — the sellers who get removed are the ones who post the same photo five times.
  • Instagram Reels and TikTok. Short demo videos filmed on your own table. A real hand in the frame beats a supplier's studio shot every time.
  • Family and building groups. Your first ten sales almost always come from people who already know your face.
  • Repeat buyers. Save every customer's number with a note on what they bought. The second sale to an existing buyer is the cheapest sale you will ever make.

Once you have volume worth the effort, the Markaz reseller programme covers how the earning side scales, and the affiliate programme is the route if you'd rather share links than handle orders yourself.

Step by step: your first order

  1. Sign up free through the dropshipping portal and open the catalogue.
  2. Pick five products, not fifty. Five you can describe from memory beats a catalogue you can't answer questions about.
  3. Set your price on top of the listed price, with the return buffer built in.
  4. Post them where you already are — status, one group, one Reel.
  5. Answer every question the same day. Speed is most of the sale in this market.
  6. Take the order and call to confirm the address, the block and the exact amount.
  7. Place the order on the catalogue. No minimum order, so one unit is fine — you never carry stock you haven't sold.
  8. The parcel ships and the rider collects the cash — typically 3 to 5 days for local stock inside Pakistan.
  9. Your margin is paid out, and you message the buyer to ask how it went. That message is what makes the second order happen.

Mistakes that kill a Karachi reselling business

  • Buying stock in month one. Jodia Bazar is right there and it is tempting. Don't. Learn what sells with someone else's inventory first.
  • Skipping the confirmation call. The single biggest cause of refused parcels, and the cheapest thing to fix.
  • Posting fifty products. Nobody trusts a seller who appears to stock everything. Five products, known well, sells more.
  • Chasing the cheapest price. There is always someone cheaper. Trust, honesty about the product and fast replies are what people actually buy on.
  • Going quiet after dispatch. A buyer with no update starts to suspect a scam. One message at dispatch and one at delivery prevents most of it.
  • Quitting in week three. The first orders come from people who know you. The steady ones come after two or three months of posting.

Quick answers

Is dropshipping legal in Karachi?

Yes. Reselling products you don't hold is ordinary trade. There is no licence required to start, and you can register a business later once your income makes it worthwhile.

How much money do I need to start dropshipping in Karachi?

You can start without buying stock. Because you order only after the customer confirms and there is no minimum order, the money you need is whatever it costs to keep your phone connected and to post consistently.

Do I need a shop or a warehouse?

No. The supplier holds the stock and ships it. Your job is finding the buyer, quoting the price, confirming the order and keeping the customer informed.

How long does delivery take inside Karachi?

Local stock inside Pakistan typically moves in about 3 to 5 days, and intra-city legs are usually the fastest. Products sourced from China through Markaz arrive door to door in roughly 10 to 17 days, so quote that honestly upfront rather than after the order.

What if the customer refuses the parcel?

It happens to everyone. Reduce it with a confirmation call, an accurate description and a clear total amount, and price so that the occasional refusal is absorbed rather than fatal. Track your refusal rate per product — one bad product usually causes most of them.

Can I do this alongside a job or university?

Yes, and most people do. The work is posting and replying, both of which fit into gaps in the day. What it will not survive is replying to buyers a day late.
