Find Winning Products With Image Search

Find Winning Products With Image Search

Most product research advice assumes a budget. Run ads, watch what converts, kill what doesn't — a method that works and costs money you may not have when you are starting out.

There is a cheaper method, and in some ways a better one, because it starts from evidence instead of a hypothesis: find products that are already selling, then find where they come from. Image search makes that a two-minute job.

The idea

You see a product somewhere it is clearly working — a TikTok video with a few hundred thousand views, an Instagram page that keeps reposting the same item, a stall doing brisk business at a Sunday bazaar. You photograph it or screenshot it. You upload that picture to image search on Markaz China, and you get the same product, or close variants, at source with prices attached.

You have skipped the guessing entirely. Somebody else has already proven there is demand; your only remaining question is whether the margin works.

Where to look for evidence

  • TikTok and Instagram Reels. The most reliable signal in Pakistan right now. If a product video has unusual engagement and the comments are asking "price?" and "delivery?", that is demand you can see.
  • Competitors' pages. A reseller who keeps posting the same item is selling it. Nobody reposts a product that does not move.
  • Physical markets. Walk a busy market and photograph what people are actually carrying away. Local retail is a demand signal most online sellers ignore.
  • Your own messages. If two customers ask you for something you do not stock, that is a product request, not a coincidence.

How to take a photo that searches well

Image search works on shape, colour and pattern, so the picture matters:

  • Fill the frame with the product and crop out hands, faces and clutter.
  • Use a plain background where you can — a table, a wall, a floor.
  • Shoot the most distinctive angle: the side of the bag with the buckle, the face of the watch, the pattern on the fabric.
  • Avoid heavy filters. A colour-shifted photo returns colour-shifted results.
  • Screenshots work — crop tightly to the product and lose the video interface.

What to do with the results

You will usually get the exact product plus a set of near-variants, which is more useful than it first appears. The variants are how you differentiate: a slightly different colourway or finish lets you sell something recognisable from the video that is not identical to what every other reseller is posting.

Then run the numbers before you get excited. Take the source price, add the delivery and any fees, and compare that landed cost with what the product is actually selling for locally. If the gap does not leave you a real margin, the product is a good idea for somebody with a different cost base, not for you. Our pricing and margin guide covers that calculation properly.

The check most people skip

A product being popular does not make it a good product to sell. Before you commit, ask:

  • Is it still early? A product every reseller in your feed is already posting has passed the point where margin lives.
  • Will it survive the delivery window? China-sourced items arrive in about 10 to 17 days. Viral products with a short shelf life sometimes cool off in exactly that window.
  • Can you photograph it better than the source listing? Factory photos sell to importers, not to Pakistani shoppers. If you cannot improve on them, you are competing on price alone.
  • Would you buy it? An unfashionable test that works surprisingly well.

Then order exactly one

Image search tells you a product exists and roughly what it costs. It cannot tell you whether the stitching holds, whether the colour matches the photo, or how it feels in the hand. There is no minimum order, so buy a single unit to your own address, and decide after you have held it.

That one order is also your photo shoot. A real picture of the actual product, taken by you in daylight, will outsell a borrowed factory image every time — and it is the one thing a competitor reposting the same stock photo cannot copy.

Turning it into a habit

The sellers who consistently find products early are not luckier; they are looking more often. Ten minutes a day in your own feed, screenshotting anything with unusual engagement, builds a shortlist worth more than any paid trends tool. When something on that list keeps reappearing, search it, price it, and order one.

Start with what you have already noticed this week. Open image search, upload the picture, and see what it costs at source — or browse the China categories if you would rather start from the catalogue and work forwards. Either way, the research costs nothing but attention.
